Open the door manually.
How to get a garage door wheel back on track.
Reach overhead and pull the rope to release the door.
The point where the roller is nearest the track is probably the point where it jumped the track.
To ensure that your rollers will run smoothly and don t run off course lubricate the track as well as the other parts of your garage door with a spray lubricant.
A good household cleaning solution can do the trick for fixing this.
Spray lubricant onto the tracks for smooth up and down movement of your garage door and for increased useful life.
With that working properly you have successfully put your garage door back on track.
Off track garage door rollers can also be caused by dirt and grime that accumulates on the track.
If this doesn t work proceed to the next step.
However this will cause grease or lubricants to be stripped off as well so you need to lubricate the wheels again with the powdered graphite or with the garage door lubricant.
Powdered graphite can also be used as an alternative.
The next step is to go to the inside of the garage door.
Locate where the wheels have jumped the track apply a pair of locking pliers underneath the door on one of the tracks to act as a stop.
You can check this by using a carpenter s level.
You need to check the release handle and make sure that it is on the track.
Secure vise grips to the tracks under the door to keep it open while you work.
Some units will actually reconnect themselves but this is not typically the case.
Locate where the roller popped out of the track.
Use a rubber mallet to tap the edge of the roller back into the track.
The pliers act as a stop.
Once you locate where the wheels on the door are jumping off the track snap locking pliers underneath the door on one of the tracks.
If simply hitting the button does not work you will have to take more action.
Ensure that the vertical parts of the track remain straight.
Manually open the door.
Repeat for each of the rollers that have come off the track sliding them back in.
Use pliers to pry open one side of the track so the opening is wide enough to slide the roller back in.
Pull the outside of the track open with another pair of pliers to put the wheels back on the track.
